Safety Spectrum Speedometer

The speedometer is a colored band that travels from left to right as speed increases. From 0-35mph, the color is green, then a change to orange at 35 mph, and finally to red at 65 mph.

See a QuickTime video of the Safety Spectrum Speedometer in action.

The large red oval unit atop the instrument panel is the Autronic Eye sensor. A phototube inside the unit senses oncoming headlights and automatically sends a signal to dim the highbeam headlamps (if highbeams have been turned on by the conventional footswitch), then restores high beam operation when the oncoming vehicle has passed by. The black knob adjusts sensitivity - overhead street lights can confuse the sensor, but with proper adjustment, this is a handy option.
