'59 Olds Wonderbar radio

The Wonderbar radio was optional on all GM cars for many years. Pressing the Wonderbar initiated a small electric motor which moved the tuner knob and pointer to the next AM signal detected by the Wonderbar circuit. Directly under the Wonderbar is a sensitivity slider.

Power antenna and courtesy light switches are located above the radio. The center chrome filler panel housed the electric top switch on convertibles.

Also optional on '59 Oldsmobiles was an additional removeable "Transportable" radio which was stored in a locking bracket in the glove box. The Transportable radio was handy for picnics, although audio fidelity was vastly inferior to the in-dash radio. The Wonderbar signal-seeking feature was not available with the Transportable option.
