Ask any kid who lived in Wichita in the 1960's what their favorite afternoon program was, and most likely you'll hear "MAJOR ASTRO!" Tom Leahy played the rugged spaceman who traveled the universe to bring kids the finest cartoons and serials. Astro would adjust his Space Scope to tune in great shows like "The Whirlybirds" and "Sea Hunt."
Tom Leahy was a popular fixture in Wichita broadcasting for many years. Prior to his stint at KARD in the 60's, he gained notoriety as the macabre "Host" on "The Host and Rodney" on rival Wichita station KAKE. The Saturday latenight ghoul-fest showcased the finest in B-movie horror films. In the late 1990's, a celebration for Tom honored him for his long career as one of Wichita's most popular radio and TV personalities. HAPPY ORBITS, Major Astro! |
