Westy's first campout
Labor Day Weekend 1999

 1967 VW Westfalia Campmobile
on its first outing after the restoration began. Still lots of odds and ends to finish, but ready for the road! The restoration was finally completed in July 2001.

My friend Phong was adventurous enough to take the Westy out with my on her inaugural camping trip after the restoration began. Here Phong is cooking breakfast at the Hospital Flat Campground along the Kern River in the Sequoia National Forest

Here's Kris at the Sherman Pass summit - elevation 9,200'
A long, slow climb with a VW 1500cc engine!

lunchtime at secluded Boone Meadow
no other campers in sight even on busy Labor Day weekend!

Guess who did most of the cooking?
Hey, Kris did his part too! Camping is teamwork!

Our first campout in the Westy was a total success. No problems of any kind. Very gratifying after starting a painful and lengthier than planned restoration. The Westy's restoration wasn't completed until July 2001. This was the first of many fun camping trips!
