The fuel filler is underneath this spring loaded cover on the rear bumper. Note the quality of the chrome plating. The lettering in the fuel door is crisp, indicating a quality plating job. GM cars were known for high quality chrome plating in the 50's, but for some reason the upper rear bumper on EVERY 1958 Buick was very poorly chromed and began to tarnish quickly when new. Fortunately, the underlying steel was fine. so a good chrome plater can make a big difference on the beauty of this piece.
