1958 Buick Limited Riviera coupe
The 1958 Buick makes unprecedented use of chrome plating, both outside and in. Here's the dazzling B-58 instrument panel which give the driver full instrumentation. The large round pods on either side of the instrument cluster are for headlamp control on the left side and heater and air conditioning control on the right (not seen in this photo). There are gauges for engine temperature, oil pressure, generator charging status, and fuel level - no idiots lights here!

This Limited is also equipped with the optional "Speedminder" buzzer. In 1958 before the days of Cruise Control, the driver could monitor his maximum speed by dialing in a number visible in a small window to the left of the speedometer. If that speed is exceeded, a warning buzzer sounds. The speedometer has a segmented red ribbon display which travels from left to right as speed increases. Fortunately a friend took this photo as I was driving to illustrate the instrument panel display in action!
