| As ABC began very limited colorcasting in 1961, the network created its own colorful intro to rival NBC's famed peacock. This animated announcement preceded early ABC color broadcasts such as "The Flintstones," "The Jetsons," "The ABC Sunday Night Movie," and specials like "The Bing Crosby Christmas Show." Not many ABC affiliates had color transmission equipment in 1961, so rather than confuse owners of color TV's in markets with only ABC monochrome transmission, the intro logo was strictly instrumental.
